The Story of
Yarden Ashkenazi
Photographed with: Esther Barak-Landes, lawyer, entrepreneur and venture capital investor
Only when she returned home and tried to sleep did she realize the war had come back with her
Yarden served as the operations officer of Battalion 13 in the Golani Brigade during Operation Protective Edge. Her role involved helping manage the battalion's activities, evacuating wounded soldiers and locating the missing and the fallen. The battalion lost eight of its soldiers, and many others were wounded.
When she went home on leave, the first nightmare came, beginning a long journey of recognizing and coping with the trauma she had carried home from the fighting.
Today, Yarden lectures to operations officers, mentors discharged combat soldiers at NATAL and is studying for a master's degree in rehabilitation psychology, with the aim of treating people affected by combat in the future.
