The Story of
Yehuda Aharoni
Photographed with: Benny Gantz, the 20th Chief of the IDF General Staff and former Minister of Defense, Chairman of the Blue and White party
For years, he was the first to arrive. Now it is time to pause for himself
Yehuda has served in the police since 2003, first as a patrol officer at the Sderot station and later in the Southern Border Police, as the community police officer for the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council.
On the morning of October 7, he went out into the area and worked under fire. Through his radio and phone, he heard calls for help in real time from friends and people he had known for years. He assisted the forces and residents and tried to save lives, while learning that friends and residents from his communities had been murdered and abducted.
After that day, he continued supporting the community through funerals, memorial ceremonies and the evacuation period, pushing his own pain aside. Only in January 2026 did he pause and begin rehabilitation.
Today, he is rebuilding himself and hopes to turn the journey he has been through into an ability to help others as well.
