Combat medical teams risk their lives to save lives: it is a calling

Matan serves as a reserve paramedic in the battalion aid station of the Paratroopers Brigade 55 reconnaissance battalion. Since October 7, 2023, he has served more than 300 days in the reserves across several deployments in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.

In the first days of the fighting, the soldiers worked to clear Route 232. During the operation, their force was ambushed by terrorists near Mefalsim. In the midst of the incident, Matan and his team treated a critically wounded person under fire, saving that person’s life.

Throughout the war, Matan continued serving as a paramedic, treated wounded people and lost friends. His role requires him to face complex incidents and carry the responsibility for treatment and saving lives in combat conditions.
