The Story of
Keren Chizik
Photographed with Michal Peylan
During her military service, Keren was stationed in the southern part of Gaza during a complex period that included the Disengagement Plan (2005), and served as a combat medic between 2003-2005 in the Gaza Division. She extended her military service for an additional 6 months and signed to participate in permanent service for another six months as a female in the medical corps. "As medics, we were on standby 24/7 ready for any scenario on an "intensive care" ambulance throughout the Gaza Strip from north to south. We were of course a part of every event in the sector then, it was the first "rapid evacuation vehicle" in the IDF. About ten months after I finished my service, I was diagnosed with severe complex and persistent post-traumatic stress disorder. I am still working on myself to continue my life after those years.
During my military service, I also took part in a rapid evacuation team that included senior staff members for rapid evacuation to the hospital via helicopter. About ten months after I finished my service, I was diagnosed with severe complex and persistent post-traumatic stress disorder. I am still working on myself to continue life after those years.
