The Story of
Keren Chizik
Lihi Lapid – Israeli author, journalist, and social activist, wife of Yair Lapid, Chair of Yesh Atid and Leader of the Opposition
During a complex and challenging period, Keren served in the Gaza Division between 2003 and 2005, a time that included the Disengagement Plan.
She served as a combat medic and was part of an intensive care ambulance team on 24/7 standby for any scenario across the Gaza Strip — from north to south. It was the IDF’s first rapid evacuation vehicle, and she took part in helicopter evacuations and particularly complex rescue missions.
After completing her service, Keren extended it by an additional six months and later signed on for a short-term career service in the Medical Corps.
Ten months after her discharge, she was diagnosed with severe and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“I still work on myself every day to keep living after those years.”
